I live the brain drain challenge daily in recruiting efforts for oil & gas industry. The industry will soon be in crisis mode. The average age of the professional work force in the oil & gas industry is 53. Many of these baby boomers are now ready to retire on very generous pensions. I do see the industry taking this issue seriously. The challenge lies not only in harnessing human capital management but understanding the values the Gen Y’s, the incoming generation. The need to communicate their organizational philosophies through effect branding, role development and rewards programs and even flexibility (a fundamental concern for Gen Y’s) will be as important a key to not only attracting talent but retaining the talent.
