New Year – New Job?

2015 can bring many exciting new changes for everyone. This could be the year you land your dream job, lucky for you, now is the best time to start your job search.  If you are seriously or even passively looking for a new and exciting career change in the year to come, now is the optimal time to start or reactivate with your search.

Many candidates fear starting this process in November due to feeling as though they might get called in for an interview, proceed with the process, get offered a position, and then have to start before the end of the year; resulting in a loss of their promised bonus. 9.5 times out of 10 this is not the case and here is why those fears are leading you astray:

  • The Recruiting/Hiring process can be slow:generally around 2 months; putting you at a start date of right after the first of the year.
  • Companies will not expect you to start immediately:unless intense need, it is reasonable to negotiate even a preferred start date.
  • If company is in immediate need and needs you to start before the end of 2014:companies will often offer a signing bonus to make up for the potential loss of bonus from current position.
  • The early bird gets the worm:If you wait you may find that your dream job was already filled.

Many of you may be reading this and thinking, ” I am at the top of my game, I’m happy and successful at my current job”. If this is you, now is the perfect time for you to look for a potential new opportunity.  Could it be that you are looking for an advancement to your current role, more work/life balance, better benefits, new location, or even more money?   Consider that you are the most marketable at this point and therefore you are highly desirable to new employers.
